Tour summary: Discovering Madagascar’s unique wildlife, diverse landscapes, and rich culture on this 14-day journey from the baobab forests and beaches of Ifaty to the rainforest of Ranomafana, the rocky canyons of Isalo, charming highland villages, and the lemur-filled forests of Andasibe.
14 Days Antananarivo – Ifaty – Ranohira – Ranomafana – Antsirabe – Andasibe – Antananarivo
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo, Airport Pick up
Arrival in Antananarivo at Ivato international airport. Meeting with our representative and transfer to your hotel.
Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux or similar
Day 2: Antananarivo – Toliara – Ifaty.
According to your today’s flight to Toliara. You’ll be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport.
Arrival in Toliara, meeting with your driver/guide and transferred to Ifaty which is located at about 25km north from Toliara.
Arrival at Ifaty, check-in at your hotel.
At leisure for the reset of your journey.

Day 3: Ifaty: Visit Reniala Reserve
This morning, you’ll enjoy a visit of the Reniala spiny and Baobab forest. The place also is a lemur rescue center, so an opportunity for you to see your first lemur (the Ring tailed lemur) that some of them are already released and wandering around the forest.
This forest is also good for bird watching as some endemic bird species as the Subdesert Mesite, Long-tailed Ground Roller, green caped coua, chabert’s vanga, archbolds newtonia and some common species as Malagasy Paradise Flycatcher, Malagasy Bulbul, Common Jery (Bird season is October/November).
Back to the hotel after the visit and spending the reset of the journey at leisure.

Day 4: Free Day in Ifaty
Today is a leisure day. You may want to snorkel or scuba dive to discover the wildlife diversity in the lagoon before the noon, when sea animals are more active and the sun hasn’t cast its stare to impact water visibility.
Note: Between July to mid-september you can take a whale excursion to see hump backed whale.

Day 5: Ifaty – Toliara – Ranohira: visit of Zombitse- Vohibasia NP
After breakfast, drive back to Toliara and head to Ranohira (250Kms approx 07hrs). Driving through the southern bushes, passing by typical southern tombs which are nicely painted and that drawings tells the lifetime of the person buried there, still some Baobab trees are found till your arrival at Zombitse forest.
Stop at Zombitse-Vohibasia Nataional Park. You can take your pic-nic lunch first before taking about 02hrs walk within this dry deciduous forest which allows you to see more Baobabs, to observe the Sifaka dancing lemur, discovering some orchids, chameleons and some birds species as this forest is good for birds watching also.
Among the key bird species in this forest are: Appert’s tetraka, crested coua, Gianta coua, cuckoo roller, owls roosting in tangled bushes up on the trees…..
In the afternoon, last step of your drive that you’ll reach after crossing the famous sapphire mining town of Ilakaka. I you are interested you can have a glance at the show room of Colourline and why not buying some sapphire as souvenir.
Arrival in Ranohira by the end of the day.
If time allows, you can enjoy a sunset at the Window of Isalo this evening.

Day 6: Ranohira: Full Day in Isalo National Park
Today, you’ll enjoy a full day excursion at Isalo National park. The park is reputed for the beauty if its landscape which is are formed from sandstone rocks which are sculpted by the sun, the wind and the rain.
In the morning walk towards the natural swimming pool along which you can discover beautiful landscape, learning the geology formation of this rock, spotting some wildlife (birds, chameleons, stick insects, scorpions…).
Enjoy a swim at the pool and taking brake before you walk back to join your car.
In the afternoon, walk towards the Namaza canyon where lemurs are waiting for you at the camping site (where you can have pic nic or grilled lunch organized by the cook’s association). Enjoy a beautiful green vegetation through the canyon that leads you to the black and blue pool where you can relax and have a swim again.
Walk back to your car on the same path and transfer back to your hotel by the end of the day.

Day 7: Ranohira – Fianarantsoa – Ranomafana
This morning you’ll drive to Ambalavao to reach the Anja community reserve (145kms – approx 04hrs) through savannah and landscape dominated by domes of granite rocks.
Visit of the Anja community reserve which is the best place for observing the Kign’s Julian family (Ring tailed lemur), some chameleons and birds species and spotting in season (by October/November) the colorful Rainbow milkweed locust.
In the afternoon, drive to Ranomafana via the town of Fianarantsoa (130Kms – Approx 03hr30) that you’ll reach by the end of the day.

Day 8: Ranomafana National Park Excursion
Today, the whole journey will be spent for visiting the Ranomafana NP. In the morning, walk within the Talatakely site which is the best area for spotting the Greater and the golden bamboo lemurs as well as other lemur species as the Milne edward’s Sifaka, the red bellied lemur, the red fronted brown lemur and with chance the Black and white ruffed lemur. Watch out of endemic birds species that found in this rain forest also.
In the afternoon, walking in another site called Sahamalaotra where lemurs and birds species can still be observed.
To close your journey, you’ll enjoy a night walk along the main road for spotting multitude of chameleon species and may be mouse lemur.

Day 9: Ranomafana – Ambositra – Antsirabe
Today you’ll head to Antsirabe (250kms – Approx 10hrs journey). You’ll have a stop at Ambositra a town reputed for wood sculpture. Visit of workshops and visiting some souvenir shops if you wish.
You can have a lunch also at the Artisan restaurant where a local music folklore are performed everday.
Arrival in Antsirabe by the end of the day.

Day 10: Antsirabe: visit of Antsirabe & Tritriva village.
Today you’ll start your morning with a visit of local workshops in Antsirabe: transformation of local recycled materials into miniatures of cars, rickshaws and bicycle; then visit of the embroiders and zebu horns transformers.
After that, you’ll drive to Tritriva which is located at 17km from the town of Antsirabe.
Enjoy the beauty of the highland countryside which are dominated by local farmers.
Visit of the village of Tritriva in immersing in the daily life of the people, visiting their house, schools and ending in a local house where you’ll be served by local people of traditional food.
In the afternoon, visit of the Tritriva crater lake and learning its history.
Back to Antsirabe after the visit.

Day 11: Antsirabe – Andasibe
Today, you’ll drive to the capital city (170Kms – Approx 04h30) in passing through the town of Ambatolampy reputed for its aluminum recycling. If you wish you can visit a local family aluminum recyclers and discovering their skills on transforming this material into kitchen utensils and souvenirs.
In the afternoon, continuation of your drive to Andasibe (145kms – Approx 04h30) that you’ll reach by the end of the day.

Day 12: Andasibe
In the morning, you’ll enjoy a visit at the Analamazaotra NP which is the home of the Indri Indri which is largest living lemur. Other lemur species can be spotted along your visit including the Didemed Sifaka, the common brown lemur and with chanche the cute eastern bamboo lemur.
This forest is good for bird watching also so keep an eye to some endemic species as the Blue coua, red fronted coua, velvet asity, blue vanga, nuthatch vanga…..
In the afternoon, take a visit of the Vakona lemur island to allow you to take photo closely to some species of lemurs found in the island.
To close your journey today, you’ll enjoy an evening walk within the VOIMMA forest for spotting nocturnal wildlife.

Day 13: Andasibe – Antananarivo.
Today you’ll spend the morning in visiting the privately manage forest by the VOIMMA association. More Indris and Sifaka, birds, chameleons are found in this forest.
In the afternoon, drive back to Antananarivo. On the way stop at Marozevo for visiting the Peyreiras reptile’s farm where you can observe closely many species of chameleons, frogs, lizards, geckoes, snakes that are hardly found in the wild.

Day 14: Antananarivo – Out.
This morning, you’ll take a visit of the Ambohimanga Royal hill to close your trip in Madagascar in learning the history of the Malagasy Kingdom and the custom of the Merina tribe.
Transfer straight to the airport for your flight out after the visit.
